Hardin County Man Charged with Distributing Meth at Kentucky Truck Stop
Douglas Stanton Struck Detective with Vehicle While Fleeing Arrest

JUL 27 -- LOUISVILLE, KY - Acting U.S. Attorney Candace G. Hill of the Western District of Kentucky announced today that on July 22, 2009, a federal grand jury in Louisville returned an indictment against Douglas Stanton, of North Long Grove Road, Cecilia, Kentucky, in Hardin County, for possessing and distributing methamphetamine powder.

The Indictment alleges that on May 13, 2009, Stanton possessed 50 grams or more of a substance containing methamphetamine, with the intent to distribute the substance. According to an arrest citation filed in Hardin District Court, Stanton sold approximately 2 ounces of methamphetamine to another individual at the Pilot Travel Center in Glendale, Kentucky. When detectives tried to stop and arrest Stanton, he fled in his vehicle, striking and injuring one of the investigators.

In the event of a conviction, the maximum potential penalties are 40 years imprisonment, a $2,000,000 fine, and lifetime period of supervised release.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas W. Dyke, and it was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Greater Hardin County Drug Task Force.

Stanton is scheduled to appear for arraignment before the United States Magistrate Judge on August 18, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. in Louisville, Kentucky.

The indictment of a person by a Grand Jury is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
