OCT 07-- LOUISVILLE, KY - United States Attorney Candace G. Hill of the Western District of Kentucky announced today that Shannon Gerard Smith, age 40, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Warren Allan Dillard, age 30, of Louisville, Kentucky were sentenced in U.S. District Court for violation of federal drug laws. Smith was sentenced to 3 years and 10 months imprisonment, while Dillard was sentenced to 1 year and 3 months imprisonment for conspiring to distribute and possessing with the intent to distribute hydrocodone. U.S. District Court Judge Joseph H. McKinley, Jr., also sentenced Smith and Dillard to 3 years supervised release following imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal judicial system.

In July 2009, Smith and Dillard pled guilty to conspiring between April 2008, and May 9, 2008, to possess with the intent to distribute over 12,000 hydrocodone pills. Hydrocodone is an addictive Schedule III pain reliever that can only be legally obtained by prescription.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Weiser, and it was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Louisville Metro Police Department.
