Drug Lord Arrested in Colombia

SEP 28 --   MIAMI – Colombian drug lord Carlos Rivera-Ruiz, AKA “06” was arrested on September 26, 2009 by members of the Colombian National Police (CNP) in Cali, Colombia. Rivera-Ruiz is charged in two indictments. The first, issued in March 2009, in the Southern District of Florida, charges Rivera-Ruiz with conspiring to import cocaine into the United States, and to manufacture and distribute cocaine in Colombia since 1990, knowing that it would be imported into the U.S. The second, issued in May 2009, in the Middle District of Florida, charges Rivera-Ruiz with conspiring to produce cocaine knowing that it will be imported into the U.S. and conspiring to possess cocaine with the intent to distribute.

“The most effective method of keeping large amounts of cocaine from making its way to our streets is to continue to work these large scale, complex investigations with our partners from the Colombian National Police” said DEA Miami Field Division Special Agent in Charge Mark R. Trouville.

Rivera-Ruiz remains in Colombia pending extradition to Florida for prosecution.
