MAR 03 -- On February 17, 2009, Deputy Assistant Administrator Joseph T. Rannazzisi appeared as the keynote speaker for the 32nd Charles W. Hartman Memorial Lecture at the University of Mississippi’s (UM) School of Pharmacy. The Hartman Lecture was established at the university in 1973 to honor the late Charles W. Mr. Rannazzisi’s speech outlined the dangers of pharmaceutical abuse and the problem DEA is facing with rogue internet pharmacies. He also spoke about the recently passed Ryan Haight Online Pharmacy Consumer Protection Act of 2008. Mr. Rannazzisi was welcomed by UM Chancellor Dr. Robert C. Khayat and escorted by New Orleans Division Special Agent in Charge Jimmy S. Fox III. During their visit to UM, Mr. Rannazzisi and SAC Fox were given tours of UM’s National Center for Natural Product Research.
