Release [print-friendly version] River Ridge Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Federal Drug and Gun Charges SEP 03 -- NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - STEVEN DARRYL HARRIS, age 24, a resident of River Ridge, Louisiana, was sentenced today in federal court by U. S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon to fifteen (15) years (180 months) imprisonment for the illegal distribution and possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a public university and the unlawful possession of a firearm, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten today. In addition to the incarceration, Judge Lemmon ordered that HARRIS receive ten (10) years of supervised release during which time he will be under federal supervision and risk additional imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervision. According to court documents, HARRIS was involved in the illegal transfer of four and one half (4 ½) ounces of crack cocaine to an undercover agent on two (2) separate occasions in October of last year in the parking lot of Southern University Campus. HARRIS also admitted that he was in possession of more than 500 grams of cocaine hydrochloride as well as possessing a firearm in furtherance of his possession with intent to distribute the powdered cocaine. The case was investigated by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It was prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorneys Abe McGull and Edward J. Rivera of the Violent Crime Unit. |
