Release [print-friendly version] Heroin Duo Indicted in Syracuse JAN 30 -- (SYRACUSE, NY) JOHN P. GILBRIDE, the Special Agent-in-Charge of the New York Office of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration ("DEA") and Acting United States Attorney ANDREW T. BAXTER announced today that a federal grand jury in Syracuse has returned an Indictment against two Syracuse men, JODY EDELMAN and RAYMOND GONZALEZ, charging them with aiding and abetting each other in possessing with intent to distribute cocaine, heroin, and cocaine base (crack) in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Section 841(a)(1). EDELMAN, 38 years old, and GONZALEZ, 40 years old, both of 731 James Street, Syracuse, New York were charged in three separate counts with possessing with intent to distribute substantial quantities of cocaine powder, heroin and cocaine base (crack). The drugs were discovered during an October 2, 2008 search at the Skyline Apartments on James Street in Syracuse, New York. Authorities estimated the street value of the drugs exceed $350,000. If convicted, EDELMAN faces a mandatory term of life imprisonment. If convicted, GONZALEZ faces a mandatory minimum term of ten years and a maximum of life and a four million dollar fine. EDELMAN and GONZALEZ were arraigned this afternoon before United States Magistrate Judge David E. Peebles in Syracuse. They were ordered held without bail pending a detention hearing scheduled for Monday, February 2, 2009 at 3:00 pm. The investigation which led to this indictment was conducted by the Syracuse Office’s of the Drug Enforcement Administration, the United States Marshal Service and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department.
