JUN 09 -- On June 3, 2009 SAC Gilbride was named as an honoree for his public service within Law Enforcement, his outstanding community service and the respect from his peers. The reception that followed the award raised funds to support the Exploring Academy summer camp. This is a 3 week experience that includes 2 weeks at Fordham University where the Explorers learn first had from trained Law Enforcement personnel. The NYFD has presented every year at this summer camp to teach the Explorers about careers with DEA. The final week of the camp is held at Ten Mile River Scout Camp in Sullivan County, New York. The Explorers are given the opportunity to apply the practical knowledge received earlier in the academy in controlled, supervised law enforcement role-play scenarios. They also have outdoor experiences of mountain biking, rappelling, archery and swimming. It costs approximately$500 per child to attend camp for one week. This reception makes it possible for every Explorer to attend free of charge.
