Heroin Traffickers Get Hefty Sentences
Heroin Distributed from Arizona to Alaska

JAN 23 -- (Anchorage, AK) – DEA Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Arnold R. Moorin and the United States Attorney for the District of Alaska, Nelson P. Cohen, announced that on January 21, 2009, Shaun “Shorty” Roe and Michael Carle were each sentenced in federal court in Anchorage to 168 and 150 months in prison, respectively, for their conviction of conspiracy to distribute heroin.

According to information presented to the court, Roe and Carle were part of an organization that distributed heroin between Arizona and Alaska. On January 4, 2008, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the United States Postal Inspection Service intercepted a package that had been shipped from Arizona to Alaska that contained over 800 grams of heroin. Following that interception, law enforcement arrested Carle, Courtney Milligan, and Carlos Gonzalez. The ensuing investigation revealed that Roe, who was then serving a State of Alaska sentence for robbery at the Red Rock Correctional Center in Eloy, Arizona, had organized the drug distribution network while incarcerated. At the time of his arrest, Carle was on probation following his prior state conviction for misconduct involving controlled substances in the 4th degree.

Courtney Milligan was previously sentenced to serve a term of 48 months imprisonment. Gonzalez and another co-defendant Christine Walters are both awaiting sentencing.
