California Man Sentenced for Marijuana Distribution Conspiracy

JUL 30 -- (EAST ST. LOUIS, IL) - A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on July 29, 2009, Trevor J. BERTLESMAN , age 32, of San Anselmo, California, has been sentenced to 5 years in federal prison for his participation in a marijuana distribution ring. BERTLESMAN pled guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute Marijuana on April 15, 2009, in United States District Court in East St. Louis. BERTLESMAN is one of 14 defendants convicted in the scheme.

According to evidence presented at BERTLESMAN’S change of plea hearing, BERTLESMAN assisted in shipping large quantities of marijuana from Tucson, Arizona to East St. Louis, Illinois and elsewhere between 2001 and 2007.

The investigation which resulted in BERTLESMAN’S conviction was conducted under the auspices of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force. The Drug Enforcement Administration led the investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert L. Garrison.
