Metropolis Illinois Man Pleads Guilty to Distribution of Crack Cocaine

AUG 11 -- (BENSON, IL) - A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on August 11, 2009, Michael TYSON , 51, of 506 W. 9 th St., Metropolis, Illinois, pled guilty to an indictment charging TYSON with one count of Distribution of Crack Cocaine on July 9 th 2008, and one count of Distribution of Crack Cocaine on July 10 th , 2008, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Section 841(a). The violations took place in Metropolis, Massac County, Illinois.

Based upon his plea, TYSON faces a potential sentence of 20 years imprisonment, a 1 million dollar fine and up to 3 years of supervised release on each count. TYSON admitted to selling the crack cocaine to a confidential informant. He has been detained since his indictment in April of this year. Sentencing has been set for 10 a.m., January 19, 2010, in United States District Court at Benton.

This case was investigated by the Illinois State Police, the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant United States Attorney Michael C. Carr is handling the prosecution.
