friendly page] Mt. Carmel, Illinois Man Sentenced For Conspiring To Distribute Methamphetamine OCT 13 -- (Benton, IL) - A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced that Jeffrey Lynn MALCOLM, age 41, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, was sentenced in United States District Court in Benton to a term of 210 months (17 ½ years) for conspiring to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine in and around Wabash County between January 2005 and December 2006. MALCOLM pled guilty to that offense on July 9, 2009. Evidence supporting the guilty plea showed that MALCOLM was responsible for the distribution of 2.78 kilograms (6.39 pounds) of “Ice,” which is a highly pure form of methamphetamine, which he obtained from sources in the western part of the United States. In addition, evidence showed that MALCOLM was responsible for the manufacture and distribution of 5.98 kilograms (13.73 pounds) of other methamphetamine which was locally manufactured in and around Wabash County. In addition to the term of imprisonment, MALCOLM was ordered to pay to the United States fines and special assessments totaling $500 and was placed on a term of 5 years supervised release to follow his incarceration. MALCOLM has been held without bond since his arrest on April 14, 2009, and was again remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending his designation to a Federal Bureau of Prisons institution. The on-going investigation into the case is currently being led by the Carmi office of the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force, with the assistance of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, the Mt. Carmel Police Department, the Wabash County Sheriff’s Department, the Illinois State Police, and the Wabash County State’s Attorney. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney James M. Cutchin.
