Bethalto, Illinois Woman Pleads Guilty in Overdose Death

OCT 29 -- (EAST ST. LOUIS, IL) - A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that Amanda OVERSTREET , age 25, pled guilty on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, in United States District Court in East St. Louis to a charge of “Distribution of a Controlled Substance Resulting in Death.” She is scheduled to be sentenced on February 26, 2010.

According to evidence presented at her change-of-plea hearing, OVERSTREET sold methadone to Jared R. Hawkins, age 24, in Alton, Illinois, on November 28, 2004, which caused Hawkins’ death from overdose.

The investigation which resulted in OVERSTREET’S conviction was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert L. Garrison.
