Holyoke
Man Sentenced for Distributing Cocaine
Springfield, MA...
A Holyoke man was sentenced on Monday, September 27, 2004 in federal
court for participating in a conspiracy to distribute
cocaine.
Mark R. Trouville,
Special Agent in Charge of the U. S. Drug Enforcement Administration
in New England and United States Attorney
Michael J. Sullivan
and, announced that MIGUEL PEREZ, age 34, of Holyoke, Massachusetts,
was sentenced by U. S. District Judge Michael A. Ponsor to 3 years
and 1 month of imprisonment, to be followed by 5 years of supervised
release.
PEREZ was further ordered by the Court to forfeit $4,610 in cash to
the government. PEREZ pleaded guilty on December 9, 2003, to conspiring
to
distribute over 500 grams of cocaine.
At the earlier plea
hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that, had the case proceeded
to trial,
the Government’s evidence, which
included four months of Court authorized electronic surveillance,
would have proven
that between October of 2002 and February 11, 2003, PEREZ, together
with seven co- defendants distributed at least one kilogram of
cocaine per week in Springfield and Holyoke. During the execution
of search warrants on February 11, 2003, DEA agents seized two
kilograms of cocaine, 200 grams of crack cocaine, eight grams of heroin
and
over $70,000 in cash.
The case was investigated
by the Springfield Drug Enforcement Administration’s
Task Force.
