Springfield
Man Convicted of Distributing Crack Cocaine
Springfield, MA...
A Springfield man was convicted today in federal court of distributing
crack cocaine.
United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan and Mark R. Trouville, Special
Agent in
Charge of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in New England, announced
today that
RAYMOND SHAVER, age 35, of Springfield, pleaded guilty before U.S. District
Judge
Michael A. Ponsor to conspiring to distribute and distributing crack
cocaine.
At today’s
plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that, had the case proceeded
to trial,
the Government’s evidence would have proven that on six occasions
between June and
September of 2003 SHAVER distributed a total of 518 grams of crack cocaine
and 123 grams of
cocaine to an undercover agent.
Judge Ponsor scheduled sentencing for February 7, 2005. SHAVER faces
a sentence of
mandatory life imprisonment, to be followed by 10 years of supervised
release, and a $10 million
fine.
The case was investigated
by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s
Springfield
Task Force.
