The
asset sharing proceeds derived from two Dallas Division investigations.
On May 14, 2003, a vehicle containing
20 kilograms of cocaine was stopped at a Border Patrol checkpoint
outside of Laredo, Texas. A controlled delivery was conducted
to an apartment in Plano, Texas, a Dallas suburb. During the course
of the investigation, DEA Special Agents and Task Force Officers
learned that another apartment in the same complex was related
to the apartment where the cocaine was delivered. The occupants of
this
apartment gave DEA permission to search the apartment. DEA task
force personnel seized $442,751, along with 2 SKS assault rifles,
money
counters and packaging supplies. The
second investigation was conducted by a DEA Dallas Task Force and resulted
in an indictment of 16 defendants for Conspiracy to
Distribute cocaine. During
the execution of 12 Search Warrants the following was seized: 6 properties
valued in excess of $500K; approximately $830K in US currency;
26 vehicles valued in
excess of $300K; assorted jewelry valued in excess of $16K; and, 35 weapons.
One of the search warrants occurred in Elmo, Kaufman County, Texas, where
$230,249 was seized along with 15 kilograms of cocaine, four vehicles
and 14 farm equipment
items.
The
Dallas Police Department has a long history of successful association
with the Dallas Division. Dallas PD provides task force officers to various
DEA
enforcement programs and the North Texas High Intensity Drug Trafficking
Area initiative.
SAC Olenkiewicz lauded the past investigative contributions of the police
department and Chief Hampton reaffirmed the department’s commitment to continue with
their successful relationship with DEA.
