MUSKOGEE,
OKLAHOMA - United States Attorney Sheldon J. (Shelly) Sperling announced
today that EDUARDO ARCIGA-BUSTAMANTE, age 21, of Mexico, was sentenced
in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma,
at Muskogee, by U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White.
ARCIGA-BUSTAMANTE had earlier pled guilty to the charges
of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and aiding and
abetting. He was sentenced to a term of 135 months in the Bureau of Prisons,
60 months supervised released, and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment
fee. In addition, ARCIGA-BUSTAMANTE will be detained by the Bureau of Immigration
and Customs Enforcement after his release from incarceration for possible
deportation.
D. Michael Littlefield, the Assistant U.S.
Attorney prosecuting the case, stated, “The
charges resulted from an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The methamphetamine was discovered in the defendants’ vehicle by Trooper
Cody Hyde of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol during a routine traffic stop on Interstate
40 in McIntosh County. The methamphetamine weighed 1,327 grams and was 83%
pure. Also in the gas tank was an equivalent amount of a cutting agent. The
combination
of the cutting agent with the methamphetamine would have doubled the methamphetamine,
resulting in between 5 and 6 pounds of methamphetamine for distribution.
