Louisville Man Sentenced to 5 Years Fed Tim
-Attempted to buy a kilogram of cocaine

JUN 30 -- LOUISVILLE, KY - Mark Nathaniel Brewer, age 48, of 47 Highwood Place, Louisville, Kentucky, was sentenced in the United States District Court, Louisville, Kentucky, for attempting to possess with intent to distribute cocaine more than 500 grams of cocaine, U.S. Attorney David L. Huber of the Western District of Kentucky announced today. Charles R. Simpson, III, Judge, United States District Court, sentenced Brewer to 5 years imprisonment plus 4 years supervised release following incarceration. There is no parole in the federal judicial system.

Brewer pled guilty and admitted that on August 2, 2007, he attempted to purchase a kilogram of cocaine from a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Confidential Source. On August 1, 2007, the Confidential Source delivered a kilogram of purported cocaine to Brewer, per his request. Brewer took the kilogram from the Confidential Source, believing that it contained cocaine. After making the exchange, DEA agents arrested Brewer. Brewer made post-arrest statements indicating his involvement with this attempted cocaine purchase.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel P. Kinnicutt, and it was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
