Jimmy S. Fox III
Special Agent
in Charge
New Orleans Field Division

Mr. Fox began his professional career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a Correctional Officer, in December 1984. In August 1987, Mr. Fox hired on with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as a Diversion Investigator, in the Memphis Resident Office. In March 1989, Mr. Fox graduated from DEA’s Academy as a Special Agent and transferred to the Atlanta Division Office. In April 1992, Mr. Fox attended the Department of Defense Polygraph Institute where he completed the course requirement in Psychoplysiological Detection of Deception and became licensed by the Department of Justice as a Special Agent Polygraph Examiner for the Atlanta office. Mr. Fox is the first African-American to serve the agency in this capacity. He administered over 500 criminal, civil and screening examinations. Many of these examinations led to significant asset seizures and arrests.
While in Atlanta, Mr. Fox was promoted to Group Supervisor of the Atlanta Airport Task Force Group, in 1996. Under his leadership, the Atlanta Airport Task Force Group became one of the elite multi-interdiction groups in the nation. He was instrumental in developing the Drug Courier Characteristic Outline Technique. Mr. Fox has traveled around the country teaching this technique to Federal, state and local law enforcement interdiction units. Today most transportation interdiction units throughout the nation currently use this technique or a prorated version.
In April 2000, he was transferred to DEA Headquarters and served as an Inspector in the Office of Inspections. During his tenure in the Office of Inspections, he has audited and reviewed DEA’s protocol in most of the agencies’ division, resident and post of duty offices. In addition, he served on DEA’s Shooting Team.
In July 2002, Mr. Fox was promoted as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Detroit Field Office. He has oversight over several division specialty groups and all of the resident offices in the state of Michigan. In April of 2005, Mr. Fox was promoted to the rank of Senior Executive Service, which is the highest civilian rank within government service. He was assigned to the New York Field Division as the Associate Special Agent in Charge of the New York Drug Enforcement Task Force. Mr. Fox served in this position until January of 2009, when he assumed the position as the Special Agent in Charge of the New Orleans Field Division.
Mr. Fox was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, in 1982 and a Master’s in Public Administration from Troy State University, in 1997. He is married to Celeste Fox.
