DEA PHILADELPHIA FIELD DIVISION HOLDS METHAMPHETAMINE CONFERENCE

The DEA Philadelphia Field Division co-hosted a region wide Methamphetamine Conference with the Pennsylvania State Police and Philadelphia Police Dept. at the federal building in Philadelphia on June 17, 2005. The purpose of the conference was to raise the awareness about the dangers, trends and unique challenges that methamphetamine presents to law enforcement and our communities. 250 federal, state and local law enforcement officers attended the conference.

DEA Special Agent in Charge James M. Kasson opened the conference by addressing the need for law enforcement to work together in combating the problem.

“ Today’s conference emphasizes my belief in the valuable partnerships we share with each of you – our federal, state and local counterparts. The development of such partnerships is a core element in the vision of the DEA’s Administrator, Karen Tandy, and is vital to the success of the DEA here and around the world. Working together, we can make a difference.”
DEA participants also spoke about numerous topics relating to methamphetamine including: Clandestine Lab Awareness and Methamphetamine Labs; the Effects of Methamphetamine and ICE; Clandestine Lab Child Endangerment; the COPS program; and Conspiracy and Evidence Issues in Methamphetamine Cases. Based upon the outstanding response by the attendees, the Philadelphia Field Division is planning to host additional methamphetamine conferences in Pennsylvania and Delaware.
