WHAT: Training being offered to representatives of the Media, hosted by the DEA and FBI.
WHERE: DEA, Phoenix Division, 3010 N. Second St., Suite 301, Phoenix, Arizona, 85012
WHEN: Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at 10:00 a.m.
WHO: Special Agent Tom Marble
DETAILS: Methamphetamine trafficking and production is dangerous, not only to the user, but to those around the production site. Meth manufacturing is extremely fatal and involves many common household chemical products. These chemicals and the array of their combinations are potentially lethal and toxic that can result in explosions and fires that could injure and kill not only the lab operator and associates, but innocent bystanders, neighbors, law enforcement officers and fireman who come in contact with a lab. Despite precautions, reporters may unknowingly come across a meth production site. Drug dealers and methamphetamine manufacturers have common habits which are easily observed.
Special Agent (SA) Tom Marble, assigned to the High Intensity Drug Traffic Area (HIDTA) Methamphetamine Conspiracy Group, will provide representatives of the media with information on detecting a meth lab, the indicators of a meth lab and the environmental and potential health effects of a production site. The presentation will include a mock meth lab where SA Marble will explain the chemicals involved and the dangers posed by mixing the hazardous products.
This training is being provided to representatives of the media for their personal and professional knowledge. Please do not record during the training. Should anyone in attendance develop an idea for a news-worthy story based on information provided, please contact the DEA or FBI after the training with any interview requests. All interview requests will be considered and an opportunity for sound will be made available at the conclusion of the presentation.
