DEA
Serves Federal Search Warrants at a Marijuana Distribution Center
in Roseville, CA and at a Residence in Newcastle, CA
SEPT 10--Today,
the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Sacramento District
Office announced it served Federal search warrants at a marijuana distribution
center known as “Capitol compassionate Care” in Roseville
and an associated residence in Newcastle, CA. This investigation is
ongoing and no arrests were made at this time.
Gordon Taylor, Agent
in Charge of DEA’s Sacramento Office, said, “There
is a widespread misperception that most people who use marijuana for
claimed medical purposes are seriously or terminally ill. It is becoming
increasingly apparent that many people who use marijuana legalization
laws are doing so simply to justify their chronic use of marijuana.”
The DEA and a large
segment of the medical and scientific communities view marijuana as
a dangerous drug. Unfortunately, there are many people
who believe that marijuana is harmless. Information from tests and studies
suggest otherwise.
On average, the
marijuana today is at least five times as potent as it was in the 1970’s.
More and more people who use marijuana today are developing a dependency
on the drug. Recent studies have shown that
more teenagers enter drug treatment centers for marijuana dependency
than for alcohol and all other illegal drugs combined. In addition, marijuana
related emergency room visits for teenagers more than tripled between
1994 and 2001. These statistics briefly demonstrate the dangers associated
with marijuana use.
Today’s enforcement action was led by the DEA in coordination
with the Roseville Police Department and the Placer County Sheriff’s
Department.

DEA office, (916) 480-7100.
