Myrna Camarena-Covarrubias to Speak on the 20th Anniversary of the Red Ribbon Campaign

OCT 7 --In honor of Red Ribbon Week, Rodney G. Benson, Special Agent in Charge of DEA, Seattle Field Division, will welcome Myrna Camarena-Covarrubias to the DEA Seattle Field Division from October 17-21, 2005. Ms. Camarena-Covarrubias will speak on the 20th Anniversary of the Red Ribbon Campaign and reflect back on the death of her brother, DEA Special Agent Enrique Camarena, and the positive impact this tragic event has had on so many young people in America.

Red Ribbon Week began as a tribute to Special Agent Camarena and has grown into a national event which has become a catalyst to show intolerance for drugs in our schools, work places, and communities. Each year, during the last week in October, more than 80 million young people and adults show their commitment to a healthy, drug-free life by wearing or displaying the Red Ribbon.

Ms. Camarena-Covarrubias will speak for approximately 30 minutes and will answer questions immediately following her presentation.

DATE: Wednesday, October 19, 2005
TIME: 1:30 PM
LOCATION: Harbor Ridge Middle School
9010 Prentice Avenue Northwest
Gig Harbor, Washington 98332

In addition to Ms. Camarena-Covarrubias, the following distinguished guests will attend this event:

Washington State Representative Patricia Lantz
Washington State Representative Derek Kilmer
State Senator Robert Oke
Gig Harbor Police Chief Michael Davis
School Superintendent James Coolican
