Iowa Man Found Guilty of Drug Conspiracy

OCT 12 -- Des Moines, Iowa - On October 9, 2007, Charles Irvin Trogdon, age 44, of Des Moines, Iowa was convicted, following a jury trial in United States District Court, of conspiracy to distribute 1,000 kilograms or more of marijuana, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. L Whitaker. The charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years to life (due to a prior felony conviction), a fine of up to $4,000,000.00, at least 5 years of supervised release following his incarceration, and an assessment of $100.00 to the Crime Victim Fund.

Trogdon was indicted on February 27, 2007, in a one-count indictment for his role in a criminal conspiracy to distribute marijuana. Evidence at the trial included that from October, 2005 through February, 2007, Trogdron organized loads of marijuana from Arizona to Iowa, where it was then packaged for distribution.

This case is being prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa. The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enflorcement, Mid Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Laboratory.
