The DOJ is comprised of several dozen various agencies that all report to the Attorney General and cover the full range of law enforcement activities. As part of the Executive Branch of the Federal Government, DOJ's total FY 2008 budget is approximately $23 billion.
Some larger DOJ components include:
- The Federal Bureau of Investigation

- The Drug Enforcement Administration
- The Bureau of Prisons
The JMD Budget Staff serves as the central budget office for DOJ and is part of the Justice Management Division (JMD), which is the component of the Department of Justice that provides a wide variety of support and oversight functions for the Attorney General and the Department's components. The Budget Staff employs approximately 50 people, most of whom are budget analysts.
