| Definition |
Annual premium pay for administratively uncontrollable
overtime work (AUO pay) is an optional form of premium pay
designed to compensate employees who perform overtime work
that can not be administratively controlled.
Note: If an agency opts
not to pay AUO pay, it must pay for each hour
of overtime work performed.
|
| Amounts |
AUO pay ranges from 10 to 25 percent of the
employee's rate of basic pay (including locality pay and
special pay adjustments for law enforcement officers).
Note: The exact percentage
is determined according to a schedule in
the OPM regulations.
|
Relation to
Other Types of
Premium Pay |
AUO pay is paid in lieu of--
- payment for each hour of irregular or occasional overtime
work, and
- hazardous duty differential.
AUO pay is paid in addition to--
- payment for each hour of regularly scheduled overtime
work,
- night differential,
- Sunday pay,
- holiday pay, and
- FLSA overtime pay (nonexempt employees only).
|
| Basic Pay |
AUO pay is not normally
considered part of an employee's rate of basic pay.
Exceptions: For law enforcement
officers (LEOs) only, AUO pay is considered basic pay
for the following purposes--
- retirement deductions and benefits, and
- life insurance.
