Dear Janice:
This is in response to your memorandum for Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies on the program to increase opportunities for individuals with disabilities to be employed in the Federal Government.
Enclosed is the Department of Justice (Department) Plan you have requested for the employment of people with disabilities. The Department will make every effort to become a model employer of qualified disabled workers by including them among the ranks of the newly hired during the next 5 years.
The Department submitted a 5-year employment commitment of 2,900 new employees with disabilities to Carol Okin, the Office of Personnel Management's Associate Director for Employment. This means that every effort will be made to hire approximately 580 disabled employees per year. The annual commitment represents a 70 percent increase over the 342 disabled employees the Department hired in fiscal year 1999.
