Prisoner Detention
On average, U.S. Marshals in the Southern District of Iowa are responsible for the custody of approximately 250 prisoners awaiting trial or sentencing on federal criminal charges.   Because there are no federal detention facilities in Iowa, U.S. Marshals rely heavily on agreements with various state and local detention facilities to house the district's federal prisoners.  This is also a desirable arrangement with state and local detention facilities
