Federal institutions and contract
jails set strict limitations regarding the type and amount of
personal property a prisoner may have while incarcerated. The
Southern District of Iowa has developed its Prisoner Property
Policy (PPP) to help ensure that all district personnel handle
each prisoner’s property consistently and in compliance with
U.S. Marshals policy. Upon receipt into U.S. Marshals custody,
each prisoner is advised, in writing, of what prisoner property
will, and will not, be accepted.
