TO PRISONERS |

The United States Marshals Service(USMS) places strict limitations
on property federal prisoners may have and retain in their
possession while detained in contract institutions. Most District
of Wyoming detention facilities limit personal property further
and are authorized to do so by the authority of the United States
Marshal. |
|
|
| A. |
The following is a list of allowable
property while you are detained in a contract or federal
institution: |
|
|
|
|
1. |
Legal papers relevant to the current proceedings |
|
2. |
One religious medal of minimal size and weight that poses no
threat as a potential weapon or escape device |
|
3. |
Prescribed medication, eye glasses, hearing aids |
|
4. |
U.S. currency not to exceed $50.00 or a check in any amount |
|
5. |
One plain wedding band (no stones) |
|
6. |
One watch valued at less than $150.00 |
|
7. |
Clothing you are wearing
|
|
B. |
Property beyond that listed in Section A is considered excess and
must be disposed of immediately at initial processing and transfer
to other facilities. Disposal may be accomplished by: |

|
|
1. |
Giving to your attorney |
|
2. |
Giving to an individual designated by the prisoner |
|
3. |
Destruction
(by throwing property away) |
|
4. |
Mailing. A physical address and phone number is required. NOTE:
P.O. Box is NOT acceptable for delivery. Prisoners will complete a
mailing label for excess property(of that listed in Section A)
that they desire to be mailed. (The property will be placed by th
prisoner in a suitable mailing container furnished by the USMS and
sealed by the prisoner. The property will be mailed by the USMS.)
Returned property or undeliverable property will be considered
abandoned after 30 days. |

Property not disposed of is considered abandoned after 30 days and
will be destroyed by the USMS. |

Prisoners in the
custody of the USMS are subject to transfer within the district on
short notice. Although facilities may allow you to possess
property beyond that listed in Section A, only items listed in
Section A will be transferred with you to another facility. USMS
prisoners will take steps to limit their property, such as,
purchasing minimal commissary items. Upon transfer to another
facility property in excess of that listed in Section A will be
mailed as described in Section B.4).
