The U.S. Marshals’ Service Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force, (JETF) Adds 13 Local Task Force Officers to its Ranks
Thirteen East Texas law enforcement officers have joined the ranks of the U.S. Marshals Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force. The ceremony took place today at 1:00 p.m. in the historic courtroom of the recently renovated Harrison County Courthouse. The newly deputized task force officers represent nine local law enforcement agencies including the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Harrison County District Attorney’s Office, Marshall Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County District Attorney’s Office, Jefferson Police Department, Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, Gilmer Police Department, and the Longview Police Department.

The mission of the Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force is to facilitate and combine the resources of the United States Marshals Service with State and Local agencies to provide an extremely effective network of investigators dedicated to apprehending those fugitives that endanger the public.

The USMS has a distinguished history of providing assistance and expertise to other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in support of their fugitive investigations. The U.S. Marshals currently lead 85 district fugitive task forces across the country. In addition, the agency leads ad-hoc fugitive task forces that operate in response to a targeted group of fugitives or a specific case — such as when an inmate escapes from prison. District fugitive task forces are the backbone of the Marshals’ fugitive apprehension efforts.
