Fugitive Posing as U.S. Marshal - Arrested by U.S. Marshals
New York, NY – The U.S. Marshals are pleased to announce that fugitive John Baldasaro, 45 was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in New York City. Earlier this morning, Baldasaro was located at a hotel in Manhattan, NY and arrested on numerous outstanding warrants from throughout New England. The investigation by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force started on Monday after being contacted by the Chesterfield (NH) Police Department. The Chesterfield Police Department stated that someone had impersonated a U.S. Marshal to kidnap and rob multiple victims in Chesterfield, NH. This suspect was later identified as John Baldasaro.

Since Monday, law enforcement from throughout New England worked diligently to locate and arrest Baldasaro. Through the combined efforts of many law enforcement officers, we were able to quickly apprehend Baldasaro. Baldasaro is currently being charged by the New York City Police Department as a Fugitive From Justice based on the following outstanding warrants, but additional charges are currently being investigated;

  • Chesterfield (NH) Police Department - Robbery and Kidnapping
  • Cambridge (MA) Police Department - Robbery, Kidnapping & Impersonating a Police Officer
  • State of Vermont - Parole Violation
  • Lincoln County (ME) - Vehicle Theft

Lt. Duane Chickering of the Chesterfield (NH) Police Department said “this crime has upset our entire community, if it was not for the U.S. Marshals, outside police agencies, the media, and citizen’s tips, we would not have found this violent suspect. Hopefully having Baldasaro in custody will put our community back at ease.” U.S. Marshal, Stephen Monier stated that “this was an attack on the reputation of the U.S. Marshals, and not something that is taken lightly; the quick and successful arrest of Baldasaro by the U.S. Marshals is evidence of that!”

We are also asking the public’s assistance in identifying any additional people that may have been victimized by someone impersonating a law enforcement officer. If you were a victim of a similar crime, please contact your local police department and report the offense.

Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately 36,000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by Marshals than all other federal agencies combined. Last year, U.S. Marshals task forces arrested more than 73,000 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
