U.S. MARSHALS CAPTURE FEMALE MOST WANTED SUSPECT IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
Los Angeles – After an exhaustive search, members of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force and investigators from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office arrested 37-year-old Lisa Monica Gonzalez, AKA Monica Torres, who was on the U.S. Marshals 15 Most Wanted fugitive list. Gonzalez was wanted for two counts of conspiracy to commit murder in Oklahoma. Gonzalez was arrested today in Bellflower after giving a false name.

Gonzales was wanted by the U.S. Marshal Service, Oklahoma City Police Department and Metro Fugitive Squad in Western District of Oklahoma for a crime that occurred in 2003. In June 2003, Gonzalez allegedly conspired and made an agreement with Raphael Gamboa and Orlando Gonzales to kill Eliceo Chavira, and in furtherance of the conspiracy telephoned California to arrange the murder. After the shooting had been completed by Gamboa and Orlando Gonzales, she helped transport them from the crime scene. Gonzalez was also wanted for a 14-defendant indictment warrant on a case involving conspiracy with intention to distribute methamphetamines.

Chief Inspector Thomas Hession, Task Force Commander of the U.S. Marshals Los Angeles Regional Fugitive Task Force, applauded the work of the Sheriff’s Department and Deputy Marshals. “Arrests of this type require close contact and coordination by law enforcement,” Hession said. “Deputy Marshals in this district were committed to finding Gonzalez to see that justice was served.”

U.S. Marshals are the nation’s primary fugitive hunting organization and capture more federal fugitives each year than all other law enforcement agencies combined. “Pursuing fugitives is what we do best. By applying the full court press on this fugitive investigation by determined Deputy U.S. Marshals, the chase is finally over and Gonzalez can now face justice,” Hession added.

The Los Angeles Regional Fugitive Task Force targets violent fugitives wanted for state, local, or Federal offenses. It is comprised of investigators and officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, U.S. Secret Service, Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development - Office of Inspector General, California Department of Corrections/Law Enforcement & Investigations Unit, California Department of Justice / Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement, California Department of Justice / Firearms Division, Anaheim Police Department, Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, Orange County Sheriff's Department, Santa Ana Police Department and the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department.
In 2008, the U.S. Marshals Service national network of fugitive task forces, working in partnership with other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, apprehended more than 109,000 felony fugitives and cleared more than 140,000 warrants.
