On September 16, 2010 members of the U.S.
Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested absconded sex
offender Calen Girtman, 27, of Tallahassee, Florida in Winter Haven, Florida
after a month long fugitive investigation. According to the Tallahassee
Police Department, Girtman absconded from his listed address on Quazar
Circle on July 7, 2010 when Girtman cut off his court ordered Mobile
Tracking Device. Girtman was currently being supervised by the Florida
Department of Corrections Probation and Parole Board for a prior felony
conviction for Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration
Requirements. After receiving a tamper alert from Girtman’s GPS unit,
Florida DOC personnel immediately responded to Girtman’s last known location
were officers located the GPS device at the corner of Polk and South
Meridian Road.
Girtman was convicted in Leon County in 2004 for the offenses of Lewd or Lascivious Battery and as such was required to register as a sex offender with the State of Florida. The Tallahassee Police Department requested the assistance of the task force after it was determined that Girtman had fled the Leon County area. After weeks of investigation, Task Force Officers determined that Girtman was currently inside an apartment complex located on Dena Way in Winter Haven, Florida. Task Force members along with Polk County Deputy Sheriff’s made entry on the apartment and arrested Girtman without incident. Task Force members also arrested the female occupant of the apartment, Dollmeisha Sanders, on charges of Possession with intent to traffic Hydrocodone. Girtman is currently being held in the Polk County Jail awaiting extradition back to Tallahassee, Florida and faces further charges of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender in Polk County, Florida.
