Fugitive Arrested in Cincinnati after Escaping from Federal Prison in Illinois

Cincinnati, OH – Cathy J. Jones, United States Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio, announced today that Devant Terrell Geter has been arrested by the U.S. Marshals led Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST). Geter was wanted for Escape on an arrest warrant from September 13, 2008. Geter was serving a 14 year sentence for Possession with Intent to Distribute in Excess of 500 mg of Cocaine and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon when he escaped from the federal penitentiary in Marion, Illinois.

Following an extensive investigation, SOFAST developed information that Geter was traveling in and out of the Cincinnati, Ohio area. Their investigation eventually led them to the Cincinnati Greyhound Bus Station where they observed Geter arriving on one of the busses. Geter was quickly surrounded and taken into custody without incident. When confronted by SOFAST, Geter provided false identification. Further investigation revealed Geter had been using this identity to elude law enforcement for the past 3 years. Geter was booked into the Hamilton County Justice Center where he will await extradition back to the Southern District of Illinois.

Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Pat Sedoti praised the multi-agency cooperative effort and teamwork that resulted in last night’s arrest. “Our task force will continue to aggressively pursue violent fugitives who think they can elude justice by absconding to Ohio.”

SOFAST is a multi-jurisdictional task force comprised of the U.S. Marshals Service, the Cincinnati Police Department, the Ohio Adult Parole Authority, and the Warren County Prosecutors Office.

The U.S. Marshals Service is the nation’s primary fugitive hunting organization and captures more federal fugitives each year than all other law enforcement agencies combined.
