Homicide Suspect Arrested While Attempting to Buy Firearm

Sacramento, CA The U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force (PSWRFTF) Sacramento Division arrested 23 year old Eric Mathew Tabin in South Sacramento. Tabin was wanted for Homicide out of Stockton, California.
On July 19th 2011 at an apartment complex in Stockton, Tabin was allegedly involved in a shooting of two individuals. Tabin lured the individuals to the apartment complex parking lot and without warning both victims were ambushed by another individual who shot both with a semi-automatic handgun. That suspect was arrested shortly after the shooting however Tabin eluded authorities. One victim died as a result of the shooting and the other critically injured. A warrant was issued for Tabin’s arrest and Stockton Police coordinated with the U.S. Marshals to help locate and apprehend Tabin.

Members on the PSWRFTF developed information that Tabin was going to attempt to purchase a semi-automatic handgun at a gun dealership in South Sacramento today. Investigators set up a sting operation to apprehend Tabin. At approximately 5:30 p.m. Tabin was observed pulling into a parking lot in the 2300 block of Fruitridge road. Tabin then attempted to enter the gun store but was immediately surrounded by members of the Task Force. Tabin was taken into custody without incident, and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail awaiting his initial appearance.

The Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force Sacramento Division is a U.S. Marshals-sponsored partnership comprised of investigators from federal, state, and local agencies. Including the California Department of Corrections Office of Correctional Safety, Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Stockton Police Department and the California Highway Patrol.
