Austin,
TX – Boris Augusto Alvarado, 39, whose last known address in 2005
was in Austin was arrested this morning by the Florida Regional Fugitive
Task Force upon his arrival into the Miami International Airport.
Alvarado was detained at Tocumen International Airport in Panama City,
Panama pursuant to an advisory in Central and South America. Alvarado was
the subject of a fugitive investigation undertaken by the Lone Star Fugitive
Task Force in 2005 when Alvarado failed to maintain his sex offender registration as
required by the terms of his probation. Consequently, as an absconder,
warrants were issued in Bastrop and Travis County seeking Alvarado’s arrest.
Shortly after Alvarado fled the Austin area in 2005, interviews conducted
with family members in the New York City area indicated Alvarado fled to
Mexico and had not been heard from by the family.
In December of 2012, critical information provided from the Texas Attorney
General’s Office in Austin indicated Alvarado was presently residing in
Quito, Ecuador. Information developed by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force
further revealed Alvarado was a musician who played throughout Central and
South America. Lookouts were placed throughout those respective countries.
Early this morning, Alvarado was detained by Panamanian authorities as he
was transiting from Ecuador to Brazil. Alvarado was denied entry and
subsequently deported to the United States as a result of his wanted status.
Alvarado was the subject of a Cyber Crimes investigation in 2003 after he
used an Internet chat room to solicit a person he thought was a 14-year old
girl for sex. In addition to a jail term, Alvarado was further assessed a
sentence of 10 years’ probation.
Alvarado will remain in the Pretrial Detention Center in Miami pending his
extradition to Bastrop County.
Robert R. Almonte, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas
states, “The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force will continue to focus our
collective investigative efforts at rooting out sexual predators and enlist
the assistance of our international partners in order for these fugitives to
account for their actions.”
