U.S. Marshals Arrest Pittsburgh Homicide Suspect in Tennessee

WPAFTF LogoPittsburgh, PA – United States Marshal Steve Frank announces the arrest of Pittsburgh Police homicide suspect Tyqwan Brooks, who was taken into custody in Antioch, TN at 5:30 am this morning. Brooks had been wanted for the murder of a Pittsburgh man and evaded arrest since September. Brooks, age 17, and co-defendant Sean Jones, age 18, were charged on September 7, 2012 by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police with criminal homicide, robbery - inflict serious bodily injury, and conspiracy - criminal homicide. Brooks was also charged with criminal attempt - criminal homicide and carrying a firearm without a license. Brooks and Jones are accused in the September 5, 2012 shooting death of Elijah Washington, a resident of the Lincoln-Lemington section of Pittsburgh. Washington was shot multiple times and was found deceased under the Larimer Avenue Bridge. Brooks is originally from Pittsburgh and was last known to reside in Lincoln-Lemington.

The United States Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force (WPAFTF) was actively investigating Brook’s whereabouts at the request of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and developed information he was in the Nashville, TN area. A request for assistance was forwarded to the Marshals’ Middle Tennessee Joint Fugitive Task Force in Nashville who arrested Brooks without incident at an address in the 300 block of Kothe Way in Antioch, TN. Brook's co-defendant, Shawn Jones, was arrested by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police on September 13, 2012 pursuant to these charges.

The Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force is made up of the following member agencies: U.S. Marshals, Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Attorney’s Office.
