San
Antonio, TX – Ronnell Williams, 27, was arrested yesterday afternoon by
the Dallas Fort Worth Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (DFW FAST) in
Dallas, Texas without incident. An arrest warrant was sought by the San
Antonio Police Department (SAPD), where it is alleged that Williams
committed 1st degree murder.
On March 1, 2013, the SAPD contacted the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF)
to assist in the search for Williams. Task force officers determined that
Williams fled from San Antonio to Dallas. The LSFTF contacted the DFW FAST
for assistance in locating and apprehending Williams. Yesterday afternoon,
members of the DFW FAST determined that Williams was hiding out with his
girlfriend, Leah Yanchik, 27, in Dallas. Task force officers conducted a
brief surveillance and later observed Williams and Yanchik traveling in a
rental car together. Task force officers stopped the vehicle and Williams
was immediately arrested. Charges have not yet been filed against Yanchik
for assisting Williams.
On February 14, 2013, Williams and DeVante Jackson, 19, were allegedly
involved in a shooting that resulted in the death of Anthony Melvin, 27. The
shooting took place at a home in the 2600 block of Corina Glen in San
Antonio, Texas. The shooting was allegedly due to a drug deal gone bad.
Williams and Jackson were both seen leaving the scene of the murder in
Williams’ white Dodge Charger. The vehicle was later recovered at a body
shop after being dropped off for a paint job. Jackson was arrested a few
days after the murder, but Williams went on the run and was a fugitive until
he was arrested yesterday afternoon. Williams will be extradited back to San
Antonio to face 1st degree murder charges.
Robert R. Almonte, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas,
stated, “Williams was another violent fugitive that we needed to arrest
quickly before he could hurt or kill someone else. Thanks to the joint
efforts of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and the Dallas Fort Worth
Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team, who wasted no time in finding Williams
and putting him behind bars.”
