Concord, NH – “Fugitive of the Week” Megan Haggett, 21 of Littleton, NH was arrested by local police in Westborough, Massachusetts on March 5, 2013. Haggett was wanted by the Grafton County Sheriff’s Office on an outstanding arrest warrant for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Burglary. Through this investigation, the Grafton County Sheriff’s Office had determined that Haggett was likely in the Boston, Mass. area.

As part of this investigation, Haggett was aired as the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force’s weekly feature known as the “Fugitive of the Week” on January 31, 2013. The “Fugitive of the Week” is broadcast on WTPL-FM, WMUR-TV, the Union Leader, The Nashua Telegraph and is prominently featured on the internet.

The Westborough Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Haggett. Haggett refused to produce identification or to identify herself. Haggett was operating a vehicle without a license and was arrested. During the booking process, Haggett’s true identity was learned and the ‘Fugitive of the Week’ poster was located on the internet. Haggett was arrested and charged as a Fugitive from Justice in Westborough, Mass. District Court. Haggett is currently being held on $50,000 cash bail at MCI Framingham pending her return to NH.

Sergeant Ryan Kelly of the Grafton County Sheriff’s Office stated that “the ‘Fugitive of the Week’ feature was a contributing factor to Haggett being caught!!!” U.S. Marshal, David Cargill, Jr. said “this is further evidence of the power of the media and the public contributing to help make our streets safer.”
Since the inception of the New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force in 2002, these partnerships have resulted in over 5,370 arrests (updated: as of 03/05/2013). These arrests have ranged in seriousness from murder, assault, unregistered sex offenders, probation and parole violations and numerous other serious offenses. Nationally the United States Marshals Service fugitive programs are carried out with local law enforcement in 94 district offices, 85 local fugitive task forces, 7 regional task forces, as well as a growing network of offices in foreign countries.
