ABSTRACT: This system consists of (1) aircraft maintenance instruction files which contain maintenance bulletins, safety circulars and related aircraft and avionics maintenance directives; (2) aircraft engines and propellers historical files which reflect a complete record of the condition and serviceability of USMS aircraft, aircraft engines and propellers, log books, service bulletins, modification, maintenance and inspection records, malfunction and defect reports, airworthiness applications and supporting papers, and related aircraft card records; (3) aircraft log book files; (4) aircraft maintenance management correspondence and service files; (5) aircraft status files; and (6) aircraft program management files.

PURPOSE: Aircraft records are used to manage the utilization, maintenance, inspection, and repair of aircraft for the USMS Air Operations Program, Justice Prisoner and Alien Transportation System (JPATS), in accordance with relevant safety and security requirements.

ACCESS CONSTRAINTS: Records are protected from unauthorized access through appropriate administrative, physical, and technical safeguards. Access is restricted to personnel with a need-to-know to perform their official duties.

USE CONSTRAINTS: Users are restricted to only those privileges necessary to perform assigned tasks.

AGENCY PROGRAMS: Aircraft records support the USMS in the transportation of prisoners held in custody of a U.S. Marshal, other prisoners transported under cooperative or intergovernmental agreements, and lawfully deported aliens.

SOURCES OF DATA: Information in this system is collected from aircraft and equipment manufacturers, operators, inspectors, and maintenance and repair contractors.
