Department of Justice Holding Sunshine Week Celebration Featuring Attorney General Eric Holder

Three years ago, during Sunshine Week 2009, Attorney General Holder issued new FOIA Guidelines designed to reaffirm our nation's fundamental commitment to open government.  Those guidelines called on agencies to administer the FOIA with a presumption of openness and stressed the importance of effective administration of the law.  On the first day of Sunshine Week 2012, the Attorney General will lead the Department's celebration of the third anniversary of those FOIA Guidelines and the important improvements in FOIA administration that they have generated across the government. The program will also spotlight examples of selected achievements reached by a cross-section of agencies in the five key areas addressed by the FOIA Guidelines.  Agency representatives will share their accomplishments in applying the presumption of openness, ensuring that they have effective systems in place for responding to requests, improving their proactive disclosures and use of technology, and reducing any backlogs and improving timeliness overall. The details for this event are set out below:
When: Monday, March 12, 2012
