     ATTORNEY GENERAL TO DELIVER COMMENCEMENT SPEECH AND
     SPEAK AT GROUNDBREAKING FOR THE NATIONAL ADVOCACY CENTER
              UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA, COLUMBIA


     WASHINGTON, DC -- Attorney General Janet Reno will be at the
University of South Carolina, Columbia on Friday, May 3, to
participate in the groundbreaking for the U.S. Justice
Department's National Advocacy Center and to speak at USC's
commencement ceremony for bachelor's and master's candidates.

     The groundbreaking will take place at noon at a site on the
southeast corner of Pickens and Pendleton streets.  Media can
park in the lot at the southeast corner of Pendleton and Pickens
streets.

     The commencement ceremony will begin at 3:00 pm in Carolina
Coliseum.  The Attorney General will talk about fighting
extremism, cynicism and defeatism.  Media can enter the coliseum
at the Park Street entrance and sit in the Z section on the
ground level of the coliseum.  TV crews will be available to
unload camera equipment in the Park Street lot behind the
coliseum.
