DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE TO APPEAL CENSUS RULING

The Solicitor General has authorized an appeal to the United States Supreme Court from the August 24 ruling handed down in the case of United States House of Representatives v. U.S. Department of Commerce. A three-judge federal district court ruled in that case that the government can not use statistical sampling methods to determine population.

A Notice of Appeal was filed on Tuesday in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. A jurisdictional statement requesting that the Supreme Court hear the case is expected to be filed within 30 days of the ruling.
