ATTORNEY GENERAL ANNOUNCES NEW CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR
OF AG ADVISORY COMMITTEE
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Attorney General Janet Reno today announced two new appointments to her Advisory Committee of United States Attorneys--Karen E. Schreier, United States Attorney, District of South Dakota, as Chair and Paul E. Coggins, Jr., United States Attorney, Northern District of Texas, as Vice Chair.
The Advisory Committee, created in 1973, advises the Attorney General on law enforcement matters and gives the United States Attorneys a key voice in Department policy.
Schreier, who has served as Vice Chair of the Committee since January 1997, also chairs the Advisory Committee's Juvenile Justice Subcommittee. Schreier is also an active member of the Native American Issues, Environmental Crimes, and Justice Programs Subcommittees.
"Karen's tenure as U.S. Attorney in South Dakota, as well as her previous work on the Advisory Committee, has been quite impressive," said Reno. "She has also been a leading force in the Department's efforts to crack down on dead beat parents who fail to pay child support."
Coggins, who served on the Advisory Committee in 1994-1995, has been reappointed by Reno to vice chair the Committee. Coggins currently chairs the Advisory Committee's Organized Crime/Violent Crime Subcommittee and Immunity Working Group. He is also an active member of the White Collar Crime and Investigative Agency Subcommittees.
