STATEMENT BY ATTORNEY GENERAL JANET RENO

Attorney General Janet Reno met this evening with Miami-Dade County Mayor Alex Penelas, Miami City Mayor Joe Carollo, attorney Roger Bernstein, and a representative of the Cuban-American National Foundation, Dr. Alberto Hernandez. The Attorney General issued the following statement:

"I listened to the concerns raised by the mayors, the representatives of the Cuban-American community, and attorney Roger Bernstein. I am in the process of considering the issues raised in this meeting, as well as those expressed by Mr. Bernstein and his colleagues in their letter of January 5, 2000, and any relevant issues raised by the state court action that was filed today. I plan to respond as quickly as possible."
