STATEMENT BY ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL BOYD

ON TODAY'S RELEASE OF HATE CRIME STUDY

WASHINGTON, D.C. Assistant Attorney General Ralph Boyd today in response to the release of a study by the Department's Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) issued the following statement:

  • "In the wake of this vicious attack on our nation, some people in our country have vented their anger at Americans of Middle Eastern heritage. Besides name calling, some have gone so far as to inflict injury upon innocent people. This is unacceptable and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

  • "Our nation's strength has come from our diversity and tolerance. We can not scapegoat certain members of our society because of the actions of a few."
