ATTORNEY GENERAL ANNOUNCES TWO SENIOR DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS
TO TAKE ON NEW RESPONSIBILITIES

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Justice Department today announced that Dan Bryant has been named Counsel and Senior Advisor to the Attorney General, and that Jamie Brown will become the Acting Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs.

Dan Bryant has served as the Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs since May 2001. Bryant previously worked as the Chief Counsel of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Crime, and the Policy Director at the First Freedom Coalition. He also worked for the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations of the Government Affairs Committee of the U.S. Senate, and served from 1987 to 1992 at the Justice Department in the Criminal Division and the Office of General Counsel. He also worked as a special assistant in the Office of Justice Programs' Office of Juvenile Justice. Bryant earned his law and bachelor's degrees from The American University, and a Master's degree from Oxford University in England.

"During the time Dan Bryant has led Legislative Affairs he has been a tremendous asset to the Department, and I appreciate his willingness to continue his service to me and to this Administration in this new position," said Attorney General John Ashcroft.

Jamie Brown has served as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Legislative Affairs since August 2002. Previously, Jamie worked as a Senior Associate with Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson and Hand's Federal Affairs and Legislative Practice Group, and as Legislative Counsel to U.S. Senator Connie Mack. Jamie is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and the University of South Florida, Magna Cum Laude.

"Jamie's abilities will be invaluable to the Department as it continues its important work with Congress," Attorney General John Ashcroft said.
