Guy A. Lewis, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and José I. Marrero, Special Agent in Charge, Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division, announced that on Friday, October 19, 2001, James A. Comyns pled guilty in West Palm Beach, Florida, before United States District Court Judge Donald Middlebrooks to attempted evasion of payment and tax evasion, each in violation of Title 26, United States Code, Section 7201. Each of the counts carry a maximum term of incarceration of five years.
As part of his plea agreement, Mr. Comyns agreed the tax loss relating to his conduct was in excess of one half million dollars. Mr. Comyns also agreed to cooperate fully with the Internal Revenue Service in their efforts to determine his tax liabilities and in the payment of his taxes, penalties and interest.
Sentencing is scheduled for January 18, 2002, before Judge Middlebrooks.
