Boston Man Sentenced To Four Years In Prison For Gun Possession

BOSTON - A Boston man was sentenced late yesterday in federal court for being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Emmanuel Mervil, 32, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Joseph L. Tauro to 48 months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release. Mervil pleaded guilty on January 7, 2013.

In October 2007, Boston Police responded to a 911 call of an armed domestic assault. Upon arrival, the officers were directed to a third floor area where they observed Mervil attempting to climb out the window. Mervil, armed with a firearm, was ordered back into the room and taken into custody. He was found in possession a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun.

Mervil was originally arrested and arraigned in the West Roxbury District Court. He was released on bail and defaulted on a court appearance. In 2008, Mervil, a previously convicted felon, was charged in United States District Court where an arrest warrant was issued. The United States Marshal’s Service located and arrested him in March 2012 as he exited a motel in Norwood.

Ortiz; Kenneth Croke, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Boston Field Division; Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis; and United States Marshal John Gibbons made the announcement today. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth G. Shine of Ortiz’s Major Crimes Unit.
