About the District of New Mexico

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico is one of 94 such offices in the United States. The District of New Mexico consists of 33 counties with the most populated being Bernalillo.  The District's main office is located in Albuquerque.  There is a staffed branch office in Las Cruces and an unstaffed branch in Santa Fe.

The United States Attorney and his staff handle a great number of matters which fall within the jurisdiction of the office, such as investigation of alleged criminal conduct, presentation of indictments, trial of civil and criminal cases, handling appeals to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and affirmative civil actions to ensure compliance with federal law. The office seeks to maintain the highest standards of excellence in the enforcement of federal criminal law and the representation of the United States, its agencies, and employees in federal civil actions.

The majority of AUSAs have several prior years of legal experience before coming to this office. There is a variety of legal and educational backgrounds within the office.

Hundreds of impressive resumes and applications are received by the United States Attorney's Office each year. The hiring committee reviews all resumes and makes recommendations to the United States Attorney. Only a few applicants are selected to be interviewed.
